Transformational cloth; sensing environmental change

World Textile Art: The 8th WTA International Biennial of Contemporary Textile Art, September 17th to November 3rd, 2019 in Madrid, Spain.

The interactive textile sensed environmental changes and indicated these to users by transforming colour and transparency. When the temperature rises above 25 degrees Celsius the pigment changes slowly from coloured to transparent with beautiful colour variations in the process. When it rains as the white print becomes wet, the ink changes states. You can interact with the piece by moving the screens around to shade the different prints from the sunlight. The artwork was developed from photographs of microscopic cross-sections of New Zealand plants.
